2016:  Christ Evangelical Lutheran (Bethesda MD) hosted its annual Christmas concert on Sunday, December 18, 2016.  Gifts of Hope was the designated beneficiary and received $2,257 in donations.  Thanks to Richard Czypinski, Minister of Music at Christ Lutheran, and to the musicians for making this event possible.  They performed the music of Handel, Lauridsen and Joseph Martin’s “Tapestry of Light: A Celtic Christmas”.

Past Concerts:  Gifts of Hope hosted its first Benefit Concert in September, 2013. Martin Kueckes , organist from Berlin, Germany, shared his love of music at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gaithersburg, MD. His repertoire included the music of Giacomo Frescobaldi, Johan Sebastian Bach, Charles-Marie Widor, and contemporary composers Johannes Matthias Michel and Peteris Vasks.

In October 2014, jazz pianist and vocalist Lizabeth Flood performed music from the “Great American Songbook” for our audience at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, McLean VA. Composers included George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. And Lizabeth sang and played 4 of her compositions.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Washington DC was the venue for the October 2015 concert, featuring The 18th Street Singers. “The Greatness and Smallness of Being” featured vocal music from Ēriks Ešenvalds, Josef Rheinberger and Barholomew-Heath.

Donations from the three concerts total more than $7,170 and included support from Thrivent Financial. 100% of these funds have been disbursed to Gifts of Hope’s 17 Beneficiary Organizations to help those in need, locally and globally. Gifts of Hope would like to thank our donors; Thrivent Financial; our host congregations, pastors and staff; and Susan Marken who creates our concert posters.
